I accompanied Mr Craig and the P6/7 basketball team to Tynecastle High School on Friday 24th May for a tournament. I was so proud of the good sportsmanship displayed by all on the day. The children were so well behaved and followed all instructions given by Mr Craig. Well done to Mrs Smith and Mr Craig for their coaching skills as Balgreen won all their matches.

I left Balgreen eons ago - 1944. I started in 1937 with Miss Nettie Fraser as my infant teacher then there was Mrs Mather followed by Miss Stirling. I have never and will never forget the happiest days of my life spent at Balgreen. I still correct people who say BALLgreen - can't help it. It was almost force fed to us as BALgreen in those days. The school colours of Navy, Amber and Green were so different from any other school colours. I have always been proud, so very proud, to have been a pupil at Balgreen. Well done to all for keeping the school in the 21st century.

I went to Balgreen 1993-2000, it was a great school I had so much fun, I can't believe it's been 7 years since I was at Primary School it seems so long ago now! I still remember all the teachers I had and even did my work experience when I was in 2004 with Mrs Palmer and her Primary 1 class. My brother Craig is in Primary 6 now and he also loves it!

I started at Balgreen School in 1939. I loved it. Had great teachers especially Miss McPhail. I also went to Tynecastle. I have lived in the US since 1955 but still love to come home and look at the old places.

The easiest way to contact a teacher is to contact them when you are at Tynecastle by clicking on the 'To' button at the top left of the email box. When you click on this, all Edinburgh Schools will be listed in alphabetical order, so just click on 'Balgreen' then select the member of staff you wish to email. Their address will automatically appear in the address bar. If you have a problem either ask your ICT teacher to show you or pop in to Balgreen and Mrs Galloway will show you. You can only use this method from school as you need to be on the Intranet to do so.

I note from your Guestbook Website that you would like memories of the school from ex-pupils.

I was a pupil from 1955 -1961 and I have so many happy memories of Balgreen. I can't remember what happened yesterday but can still remember sitting on my Mother's knee waiting in the Headmaster's (Mr Stephenson) office with all the other new pupils on my first day!

Obviously the last thing I want to do is bore the children rigid but would you also like me to write about how I remember my childhood and give a flavour of how things were when I was young?

It's nearly time to say bye bye to the P7's!!! Today most of the P7's went away on their Induction Days! In my class first we had English, then Geography ,then break and then after break Science, then English, then after that it was Lunch. After Lunch we had IT (ICT) and then Music for our last Class! It was fun today but very busy and we never got to see our friends like we usually do! But I have still enjoyed my day at Tynecastle and I still have another two days to go!!!

I miss Balgreen school.

I really enjoyed going to the farm on Tuesday. It was brill.
We got to go on the go-karts and ride in a tractor!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to Balgreen School from 1948 till 1956. I loved it. I still get fond memories every time I pass it, even though I have been married over forty years, and am a grandma nearly five times. Thanks balgreen for the good memories.

Hello, my name is June Whittaker and I attended Balgreen Primary School from 1950-1957.
My memory is dreadful and I can't remember any of the teachers' names. The only clear memory of the school I have was the female lavatory where my friends and I used to "hang" out at break and lunch times. What great days they were, not a care in the world. But these days it's all different. For my Christmas this year all my grandchildren and children chipped in for a wonderful computer. So I apologise if there's any spelling mistakes! I have been through all your pages and read them carefully. The school sounds just like the way it was, perfect and a joy to tell people that I attended there. I hope deep down in my heart the school will go on forever.

I always try to have a good look at our website when I get some time and I am so amazed at how much information I was able to get. I loved the history of Balgreen School and enjoyed reading all about what the P7's get up to in their class during the week. I am going to make an effort to try and look at our website more often as it took me ages to read everything. Well done P4 - P7s the singing and acting was excellent and you should all be very proud of yourselves. Cannot wait to see the infant concerts next week .

Wow, it's great to look back on my primary school days. I started in 1982 and left in 1989. I had Miss Malcolm in P1 and still remember her big bushy hair. MIss Palmer was P2+3 (think I saw her in the bank a few months back) P4 was Mr Torrance, P5 was Mrs Foster(recently met her in a school where I was on Supply. Had a great catch up chat). Had Mrs Tollervey/Mrs Semple in P6 and Mrs Tollervey/Mrs Meachum in P7(have met Mr Meachum at Dalmeny when I have been on supply there.) I often point out the school to my children and it's been great showing them the website. Would love to see some pictures of the school and maybe some old ones of the anniversary celebrations in about 1984. I clearly remember that. Take care and keep singing the great old song "We are pupils of Balgreen school!"

Hi there. I left Balgreen in 1990 which is a fair way back! I still remember my teachers, I joined Balgreen in P2 where I had Mrs Devine, in P3 and 4 I had Miss Palmer, P5 and 6 I had Mr Torrance and in P7 I had Miss McGregor. My head teacher was Miss Douglas, Mrs Tollervey (apologies if that's spelled wrong) was also there as well as other teachers like Mr Meachum (again - apologies). I remember it being a fabulous school, one which my Dad and his brother and two sisters had attended some years before! My house was Bavelaw and I don't recall winning anything very much as part of it! I also remember there was a learning assistant called Mrs Tweedie, the janitor was Mr Stevenson and then Mr Walker and Mrs Erskine worked in the resource centre. I also remember spending week learning the lines of 'To a Mouse' for Burns Night and then forgetting all the words when I got up to recite it! All good memories of Balgreen though, a fab school!

When you go to school dinners you wait quite a long time but I like my school.

Hi to all at Balgreen. I left the school in 1978 when my parents moved to London. I am now a Salvation Army officer in London. My memories are a little shady but I remember mainly learning all the Scottish songs and going out to perform them. Also, spelling tests - I did not like them. Balgreen will always hold a special place in my heart and so a big hello from London.

I went to your school a long time ago now, I left in 1980. When I started at Balgreen my teacher was called Mrs Anderson in Primary 1. I also had Mrs Johnston and Miss Walters. There was another teacher that I was scared off but I never had her, her name was Mrs Malcolm.
I'm not sure if I remember this right, but I am pretty sure the Headmaster was called Mr Carter, I am sure someone there will know who I am talking about.
I learned to play violin at Balgreen and we did a concert once and my Dad only told me recently how BAD I actually sounded!!
I remember a couple of great plays we did, Ali Baba and Treasure Island - they were fabby! I still know all the songs from the Treasure Island one - there was one when I was dressed as a sheep singing about cheese!!!
When we pass Balgreen now my kids think its magic that there is a special door from the school into the library.
Balgreen is a great school and I hope you all enjoy your time there as much as I did.
