Welcome to the Balgreen Website

Fun Night

A date for your diaries - Fun Night will take place on Friday 13th June.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Everything in the Garden is Rosy!

Bird Cam Comes to Balgreen!

We are well on our way towards achieving the Silver Award as an Eco School.
You may have noticed the developments in the garden where we have been pruning and planting furiously.

We have also installed nesting boxes, one of which is connected to a web cam, and is currently occupied by a  bluetit and her nine eggs. The pupils (and staff) have been enjoying watching the developments in the box via the television which has been linked to the web cam. The television is located just outside the hall adjacent to our new Eco notice board. You can see photos in the Bird Web Cam Page!

Gus from 'Earth Calling' has given us lots of help to build a pond. We have recently added plants and pondlife to it. He has  helped us to build a sensory plant bed too. Gorgie City Farm has helped us to build a 'Beastie Trail'.

Our next development is to plant vegetables in our vegetable plot. Both P6 classes will be planting swede and carrots which will be ready for harvest around the time of their WW II and 'Dig For Victory' studies as P7 pupils in August and September. Our vision is for the garden to add new  dimensions to Learning and Teaching at Balgreen and become 'part of the classroom'.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us on our journey so far!

If there are any parents, grand parents or keen gardeners who would like to help our pupils care for the vegetable garden we would welcome you with open arms! Please contact the school.

New Learning and Teaching Policy

Balgreen Primary School's new Learning and Teaching Policy has just been finalised. Developed at the Cluster Learning and Teaching Group, using guidelines from City of Edinburgh Council, it was then adapted by the Balgreen Learning and Teaching Working Party to suit the needs of our school. A copy is available for download below.
This year we are working on the Assessment Policy along with our other cluster primary schools - Dalry, Stenhouse and Craiglockhart Primaries.
