Place2Be

The Place2Be's mission is to enable therapeutic and emotional support to be provided to all children in primary schools based on a practical model backed up by support. The Place2Be is a national charity working in primary schools across the UK.
We aim to encourage confidence, nurture independence and help to raise children's self-esteem. We do this through offering several services within school:
* The Place2Talk (short sessions during lunchtimes to which children refer themselves).
* One-to-one sessions (in which children attend weekly sessions for 45 minutes with a Volunteer Counsellor for 8 weeks or for up to a school year). Children are referred for these sessions by teachers, parents or external agencies.
* The Place2Think (in which The Place2Be support school staff in thinking about the emotional development of children).
* A Place for Parents (in which parents are offered a time and space where they can explore their thoughts and feelings about themselves and their children with a Parent Worker).
The Place2Be is a ground-breaking initiative that helps children deal with the kind of difficulties they experience during their school years. These range from the everyday problems with friends, family or school, to more serious difficulties such as divorce, bullying, low self-esteem, loss or bereavement.
The Place2Be set up a special room in school equipped with art and play materials. They then train, supervise and manage volunteer therapists and counsellors to work with the children weekly, both individually and in groups. Children are referred to The Place2Be by teachers or parents/carers or they can refer themselves to The Place2Talk, a weekly drop-in service.

This year, Balgreen is privileged to have four Volunteer Counsellors: Eileen Wilson who has been with us for two years already and Mags McIntyre who is beginning her second year with us. Heather Driver and Sally Freedman have newly joined the team. Sally, Eileen and Mags are qualified counsellors and Heather is a qualified art therapist. We are very fortunate to have them, and Helen Forrester (School Project Manager), with their varied skills and experience.
